OH MY GOSH, are you kidding me?!! LOL..WE LOVE THE STORIES!!

YES, we need new pictures of Lance and Gus! [smile]

As for my crew...well, life is interesting right now. We are having a major snow/ice event (rare for west Texas) and my pups LOVE IT. Of course, when it first blew in, the two youngsters went outside and played in the freezing rain then promptly planted they big wet paws in my face to ANNOUNCE the big event at around 3am. I wasn't impressed. Then, with it icy outside, they played slip n slid on the back patio. The water trough was iced over and they thought that was THE BOMB and then at 8am ran in and planted their cold wet muzzles in my lap...just as I had dressed for work..GRRRR. They are MUCH more impressed with this ridiculous weather than I am.

Marley has a bad left knee and I have a bad right knee. We both discovered the cold makes it much worse, so me and my Marley Moo hobble through the house hoping the over-zealous youngsters don't plow us over. Hopefully, we'll survive the weekend. More later from the artic west Texas.

Eventful, day before Thanksgiving events:

1.) The turkey had been cooked, de-boned and extra was left in the sink to cool so I could throw it away (I used the disposable pan). I forgot about it until I heard Pia raising hell in the kitchen and the cabinets banging. Peaked around the corner and she was trying her DARNDEST to get up into that sink. Yup, give her a few more days and I'm sure I have another counter surfer. Not even my CURRENT counter surfer had figured out the turkey.

2.) House cleaned, turkey cooked and prepped to take to work, so shower time. LOVELY hot shower until the hot water STOPS and it's JUST the cold. GEEZ, WHAT THE HECK? Praying it was NOT the hot water heater. Managed to get the soap out of my eyes with COLD water only to realize the hot water had been turned off by Rain. She was had gotten half in/half out of the shower and was pulling on the faucet to ALL COLD...little monster.

3.) As I'm fixing the water back to a nice hot shower, I hear another gawd-awful racket outside the shower curtain and look to see WHAT in the world is going on. Well, I bought a really cool scale that is plexiglass and when you step on it, it flashes big BLUE numbers and then settles on the weight (DAMN THINGS LIES TOO. I KNOW I DON'T WEIGH THAT MUCH). Anyway, apparently, Pia thought it was a gift for her. She was jumping on it and when the numbers flashed, she tried DIGGING into the plexiglas to get to the blue numbers...I'm thinking she thought the numbers needed to DIE. I tended to agree with her on that. Anyway, I think she ran the batteries down jumping on it because it won't flash the blue numbers anymore. I'm sure she was dissappointed. I'm not sure I'm dissappointed at all.

Another day in paradise! HAPPY THANGSGIVING ALL and HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY ELLIE BELLY! A big 4 years old! [smile]

Today has been mixed for me.  I have had Gus for nearly six months but Catherine would have been four today.  No turkey here today and Gus has been like a puppy; wanting attention and treats.

:-( I thought of Catherine yesterday several times. I'm just glad you got Gus and he's warmed up to you so much. You did great with him. I still miss Catherine though.

He has more than warmed up to me.  He will at most take a few steps in the bedroom so he will wait outside the door for me.  He will whimper at times during the night after I go to bed.  He mainly just stays in the kitchen but will come and lay in the family now as well.  If he sees me get up, he pays attention and he doesn't like it when I leave.  In the beginning he didn't want me around and now he always wants me around.  Even the foster family agreed that he is loyal and they do check in from time to time.  They really wanted to keep him even though Gus and their other mastiff didn't get along; both wanted to be alpha dog so they were kept apart.

Gus needs a dog like Catherine was to show him the world and not to be afraid.  Catherine owned where she lived, Gus just rents a small area.

I hope someday Gus will come completely out of his shell. Yes, Catherine would have shown him how a confident Mastiff acts.

Well, at least he's renting now -- not thinking of himself as a visitor  there for a hopefully quick and probably scary visit!

LOL on the puppy stories! After reading about Pia and your scale, I took Boris into our bathroom and tried to induce him to kill ours! (We have the same kind). No such luck!

He has been here for six months as of today; May 30 is when he was brought home.  Many say it can take six months before a rescue feels that they are not being send somewhere else.

In January 31st is the first vet record that I have.  He was put on a dewormer and given his shots.  There was no history on him other than being found as a stray in Tulsa.  February 6th he tested negative for heartworms but the blood work from the 15th shows high HCT and HGB.  He also had surgery that day to be neutered; yep somewhere between 3 and 7 years old and intact.  They also fixed a hernia he had.  He had some recovery issues and had to be boarded for an extended period of time; it was a few weeks  His ears get dirty and have to be cleaned and I have been trying my best but they still seem to bother him at times.  So I might have to take him in.

So he had been at a shelter, a foster home, boarded at a vet, back to the foster home and then with me.  So he has had quite a few changes in his life and I feel he has accepted that he his at home now.  He hates when I leave, even going to another room gets his attention.  He will come and lay next to the couch as well; closest to me at that.

Hey Lance, get on Amazon and buy an 8oz bottle of Zymox w/ Hydrocortisone and get a 3 cc syringe. Each day, squirt 3 cc's into each ear canal. It's a bit pricey at 50 plus a bottle but it's well worth it. It's an enzyme solution that kills bacteria, fungus, yeast and virus. In the ear, you mainly worry about yeast and bacteria. It's also very soothing to the ear and decreases the inflammation.

Lance, I can say that it took our Wolfie -- who was 5 when we rescued him, and had clearly experienced an abusive life -- over a year to completely relax and feel fully confident and comfortable in our home. I think you are progressing wonderfully with Gus!

Puppy Update…

Ok it has been a while since any word has been transmitted from the Desert.   Mebbles and Purphy are doing fantastic, I keep mixing up their names so I have a 50/50 shot of getting one of their attention when I beller if I go that route.

I guess Teresa was right on this, ya just can’t have one.  It is fun in the public world when we are taking them out, and people get all gooey on them, until they understand we have two adults at home, the utter shock that is in their eyes… I wish I had my camera ready.   “You have four? My god”, is the general response.  We smile.

Back in August when we were getting ready for the “girls”, neither Wonder Woman or I really gave it any thought about we are bringing two babies in the house [this is where you quit laughing], well we didn’t, we were so focused on getting the house safe for them, we never really sat down and talked.  I will admit, I wish that is something we had done, so far no stitches.    Now when it comes to personalities, never ever believe your breeder… yes Teresa/Misty, I am talking to you.  Remember when Teresa and Misty would say “oh Pebbles is such a love gentle, and Murphy is a hellion?”…. NOPE.  See if you can get a test lease…  I love the puppies, the girls, they have brought such laughter into the house and such joy, but nobody told us the price (no sleep, drop it, where are my socks…that kinda price).  Now in the girl’s room, where their kennels are, they have their own bed other than the kennels…yes you heard me.   Pebbles, when she wants to leave the enclosure, will climb on the bed streeeeetttccccch out on her back, and howl.   I don’t know if she wants me to let her out or fluff her pillows.   Yes Wonder Woman has made sure they have pillows on the bed, and Aunt Karen has made them their own Quilts.   I am coming to the belief, its pillow fluffing.

The girls are doing really great on commands, for being five months old, they know “Vittles””Outside””Sit””Come””Gimmie my IPhone” ”Pebbles where is the remote” & and my favorite “Time to go to bed”.  Now when it is bed time, both girls summon all the strength in the universe to get up, Murphy is the leader and likes to sleep.  Pebbles on the other hand like to mimic the cat and go into a contortionist position from Cirque de Soleil.  I am convinced she wants to be a performer in Vegas and tour the world.   Now, remember the howling… well I made a bad mistake when they first got here, seems if I don’t tuck them in with their quilts, there is an issue. For both of them individually.   So I bend to the will of the girls.   I draw the line at singing “Soft Kitty”.
