I'm WAY behind!

Rain and Pia have both finished their championship. Pia in Ft Worth and, DRUM ROLL, Rain won Winner's Bitch at the MCOA National Specialty!!! There were around 80 gals there if I remember right. SOOOO proud of my gal!

Jasmine (almost 11 years old) was the hit of the specialty since she showed in 10+ Veterans (the only one). She thought she was something when the whole room erupted with whistles, clapping and yelling for her. I LOVED seeing her "smile" because she was so happy to be out there!!

Phoenix (the one I SHOULD have name Pain in the Arse) won Best Brood bitch at the specialty with her kids, Drayk and Velvet! Proud of all three of those kids (Drayk, Velvet and Ziva).

We did fair in Breeder's Cup...third runner up. I think if we'd had Finny there, we would have cleaned up!!

Our next outing will be the big Houston show. The highlight of that trip will be working the Rescue Booth again. Drayk and Rain will try to get a few Grand Championship points! WISH US LUCK!

Well she did it, finally... yes Pebbles aka " The Honey-badger" is now official.  Pebbles passed her Therapy test with flying colors receiving a Complex rating as her sister did and Micah.   After a treat of some French Fries ( it was a special day ya know) she slept all the way back to Phoenix from Prescott.

There is a bidding war going on right now between a Police Department and Phoenix Children's Hospital for her services.   It's kinda cool

Murphy's Miracle-

I propped myself on my elbow next to her on the floor and had three teens petting her and learning about her; the rest of the children busy with craft projects, babies or simply watching from the comfort of the sofa and chair, waiting their turn. A staff member stepped outside the door to speak with a driver who dropped off one of the children. Two others popped in and out of the room, monitoring our visit and a Halloween craft project that Karen set up. Pretty quiet, normal evening with a surprising lack of drama.

Suddenly Murphy whimpered loudly twice (Murphy never makes a sound…ever!), leapt to her feet and dashed behind my back where a toddler stood shaking and choking on water from his bottle. No one could have seen the child, as I was blocking the view, and he made no sound at all. Even I didn’t realize he was standing behind me. Murphy nudged him in the tummy and knocked the bottle out of his hand with her nose. I followed with a thud between his shoulder blades and water flew from his trachea and he took a huge, deep breath, coughing up the rest of the water. Murphy sniffed the evil water on the carpet, nudged the little one again, and his mother flew by his side and took charge.

The entire incident didn’t last more than a few seconds, but Karen and the older children witnessed it entirely. The kids ran to the staff shouting, “Murphy just caught the baby choking!”

It was over as quickly as it started.

Murphy comforted three other children who were in pretty severe emotional distress that night and snuggled and cuddled with everyone including staff. She enjoyed treats and brushing, hugs and pets from the kids and getting a drink from one who’s normally too shy to participate. With tears damp in her soft coat, we packed up our brushes, treats and paraphernalia and let the kids all say good night to my gentle giant.

Since we left, I’ve asked myself so many questions! How did she know? Did she sense the baby’s distress even though she couldn’t see him? Is that whimper her distress signal? Thank God the little toddler’s okay. Thank God for my mastiffs. They’re truly angels with paws.

Not bad T not bad at all...

What a good girl!! But I admit, I am not at all surprised--they are the best. And, since I couldn't give Murphy a hug, I "settled" for a Laoise hug.

I have been off-line for so long it is nice to read through the forums and catch up. Laoise took time off from comforting busy shoppers (I swear she would be happy being an official greeter at Tractor Supply), to do some real therapy work. One of the high schools had therapy dogs in during finals week. Laoise loves everyone, but the high school kids really made her swoon. I don't know how these dogs know who needs what kind of care, but they do. She was belly up for the happier, less stressed kids, sat quietly and gave hugs to those that were struggling, and made sure to lay her head carefully in the lap of the special needs kids. Mama T--you can be very proud of your girls.

Right now, Laoise is a tad under the weather--well, she feels fine, but her face is a tad swollen. Can't find the source (no bite marks or stings obvious, but she stuck her head somewhere it was not wanted). So, she is getting a bit of Benadryl and even more TLC than usual. If that is possible.

This was caught on our game camera--puppies at play! Hedley is heading off to harass the little dogs next door (at 11 1/2 it is pretty hard to deny her that pleasure, plus she is deaf as a post and can't hear you call her off anyway), and Laoise is happy to join in.

Three years ago today, Oasis mastiffs brought into the world, some puppies.  Now these were not ordinary puppies, but the puppies had very special talents because they had very special parents & Grandparents.

It’s been a while since I have posted anything; it’s been because I have either been lazy, busy, or just tired.  So I ask for a little forgiveness in not doing updates as I should have.  Now the puppies, are no longer puppies, but they are “The Ladies”.  I often look down at the floor and does my hamstring stretch to get around four babies, but it seems that “The Ladies”, no matter where Wonder Woman or I go in the house, they seem to follow.   I often wonder and being honest with everyone “what was I thinking”… . Then it happens, one of “The Ladies” or Micah, or Nala looks up, and just says… “ It will be alright”, yea I know what I was thinking.

Today I celebrate two animals Pebbles & Murphy, that have brought love, empathy, caring understanding, an incredible amount of laughter and joy, to not only Mary, myself, but countless children, the ability to hug and regain some sense of self in a very troubled world.  I travel around the US for work, and one of the great things I always encounter, is that people ask about the dogs, especially Pebbles and Murphy.  That is the truth.  I was in Dallas two weeks ago at a Leadership conference, and a VP, asked… “ hey Rick how is the HoneyBadger?”  That is Pebbles… it made me feel good to hand him new card from Gabriel’s Angels, and say “healing hearts of children and making me smile”

I have had many dogs in my life, as we all have.  I can honestly say, I have never had the privlage of animals such as Peb and the Murph…. These are with out question dogs with a true soul, and they share it.

Teresa & Misty---Thank you

Happy Birthday Pebbles & Murphy
PS... they are a LOT BIGGER than that picture

Well said. Well said indeed. I feel very privileged to have Laoise in my life and to be able to share her with others (and I don't think she would have it any other way).

Oh, I've been remiss as well in updates.

Sisters Pia and Rain are also doing awesome. Pia just passed her TDI/CGC exams and will soon follow in the footsteps of Murphy and Pebbles. Rain was chillin at home so she will have to make the trip next go around.

All of the "kids" grew up to be stellar adults. We have the show dog king, Finny. Then we have the "hearts and minds" dogs: Lovely Laoisa, Rambuctious Rain and Passive Pia. All are just the sweetest critters!!
