Yeah. Daphne had the extended culture done but not against linzolid. And I also didn't think anyone was pushing linzolid at all. You all were just stating facts and coming up with a definitive solution. I would have to guess she doesn't like to be out done in her diagnosis which is stupid. I never turn down advice and no matter how smart you think you are, its good to always learn from others experiences. I told her daphne was a senior dog and that i'm not a fanso of Chloro but she insists she has used this drug a lot. Basically totally ignoring my request. I'm guessing ill have to reculture her with another vet. There are three local vets but im just not sure how up to date they are on mrsp. Ill find out when I start calling.

Tell her that a clinical pharmacist told you that any bacteria that is killed by Vancomycin (which is on most cultures) will be killed by Linezolid.

I sure did Teresa. I even cut and pasted the post that stated about the pharmacist. What surprises me is she ignores everything. She isn't even willing to negotiate.

Maybe the difference is that my vet actually consulted with a veterinary pharmacist on Camo's case. Yes we brought in the idea of using Linezolid, but the pharmacist agreed it was a good choice.

That's true. I don't believe we even have a vet pharmacist around here. We barely have two grocery stores. Our everyday vet for vaccines and general stuff is an all around country vet that handles everything from cattle to rabbits. Im just a little nervous about going into the mrsp treatment with him.

We don't have one locally, but I live in MO, and my vet consulted with one at the University of Missouri Columbia (MSU) pharmacist on Camo's case. I do have to say, my vet is one of those types that likes to be challenged and she didn't just rely on her skills, she consulted with a huge grouping of vets and did her research on the matter, as well as taking into account the research I found.

Hi Terry,

I put Toro on something called Transfer Factor  http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/tf/s/pets.htm  as well as Echinacea/Goldenseal(natural antibiotic). He had started bumping up again a little last week and now it has pretty much gone away. I also have him on the Allicin. You might want to try them in the meantime. You should also be washing his feet/soaking them in a chlorhexadine shampoo, I recommend Duoxo. Toro had horrible interdigital cysts which I got rid of by soaking his feet daiily and also using Pyoben gel to get out the comedones. The prior vets ruined his immune system by putting him on steriods for 2 months at first instead of antibiotics. I am working hard now to get his immune system back to par.

Thanks for the info. A friend of mine on littlehorsedanes facebook page also recommended the Echinacea/Goldenseal(natural antibiotic) also. Im just trying to savethe up the money and get everything. Currently Daphne is still on the doxy to keep the infection at bay. She had a minor blowout on her rear that's not to bad at this point. Wish I had tons of money then none of this would be an issue.

Rocco has MRSP! I am sooooooo excited for a diagnosis, we've been trying and hoping for about 3 months now!

I'm glad they found an answer. You need to get with Misty to find out what all she does to keep Camo good and healthy. The antibiotic can be gotten from Canada (Linezolid) but that takes a few weeks. You can start him on Chloramphenicol, but try to get the other as fast as possible as Chloramphenicol is very tough on the system. It will decrease apetite and may cause some urinary retention.

We started on doxy about a week ago (can't remember why we switched, it was before the culture came back), and he has steadily improved since, not a whole bunch but there's been improvement. Low and behold, one of the drugs he needs to be on is the doxy, that and amoxycillan. I know they are tame compared to the drugs that others have used, and I will be talking to anyone and everyone lol, but am happy to start with the little guns and work my way up.

I'm also glad that there is a diagnosi, now to recovery. I guess you got a new vet, or convinced the existing vet to do his job.  Either way, let the healing begin!!

Stay with those drugs if the C&S shows they work! Don't use the "big guns" unless it's absolutely necessary.
